Group 4 - Instructional assignment

Text messaging for a Cingular LG cellular phone:

In order to send a text message via a cellular phone, you must first own a cellular phone, and be able to locate it. Once you have located it, open the phone. This is typically achieved by gripping the top and bottom portions separately and pulling the device apart. Gently though, as too much force will break your cell phone and you will need to purchase a new one before being able to send a text message.

Next, it is essential to ensure your phone is capable of operation. This entails checking the battery life on your phone, as well as ensuring you have adequate coverage to send text messages, and the required reception to connect to the phone network. See also the above step in insuring that you do not accidentally break your phone.

Once you have ensured your phone can actually send text messages, push the menu button located at the top left corner of the cell phone pad. this will open up the Menu. In the menu will be many different options, Scroll to the Messages button and hit OK, which is the upper left corner button.

In the Messages Menu scroll down to the Text Messages button and hit OK. Select the first tab entitled "New Message" and hit ok again.

Compose your message by using the letters written on the numerical pad. Each number had 2 to 3 letters on the pad accompanying it. To select the letter push the button how ever many times until you select the right one. For example, to get the letter O, hit the number 6 three times until the letter o is displayed on the screen. By hitting the # key (located at the bottom of the number pad) it will change the letter to the opposite form it was in - for instance a lower case letter will be changed to upper case. Spaces can be made by hitting the number 0 in the middle bottom of the phone.

When you are finished composing your messages hit the option button, which is the top right button. Choose the Send to Number option by hitting OK. You are given the choice of typing in the number you want to send the message to, or you can select from your contacts list. To select from your contacts list, hit OK and scroll down until you find who you want to send the message to. Hit OK and it will return you to the previous menu. Then after the number is selected hit the Send button.

Pending a message telling you the text has been sent, you have successfully sent your text message. Once the message is sent you are given the option to "Save to Sent" which will save your sent message into your sent folder. Choose yes or no by scrolling with the arrows then hit ok. You are returned to the text message menu and you may close the phone or send another message.

Bonus!

Phones these days are becoming absolutely saturated with frivolous gadgets and gizmos, and if you bought your phone within the last few years it's very likely that you have a camera attached to it. This section will cover the usage of your camera functions for your phone.

To begin, naturally, ensure that your phone actually has a camera on it. The camera is most often located on the rear of the device, and should have lettering of some sort designating it's function. Proceed no further if you find no such protrusion.

Now that you're sure your camera has a phone, select the camera symbol via the menu keys on your phone. These are centered around the navigation button, which is the middle, circular button near the top of the phone surrounded by a ring of littler buttons.

You should now be in camera mode! Click the menu button to snap a picture, and from the popup menu that appears select "Send". At this point, you have the option to write a message if you wish; please see the previous section for instructions on doing so if you need a review.

If you wish, you can send the image you've taken to contacts already stored within your phone. This function is the default once you select "Send". Simply scroll down to the addresses to which you wish to send your picture.

If the address you wish to send the picture to is not present, you can type in the address. Once you select this option, you will need to press the menu button to change the numbers to letters, then type in the email address using the techniques you learned in the previous article. Once your address is input correctly, scroll down to "Send" and press it.

Congratulations! You've sent a picture. Don't you feel special?

Value: The Apple iPhone claims to be a device fit to replace your phone, mp3 player, portable video player, and internet device. Since the product has yet to be released, this can be mostlyconsidered as hype. We don't recommend the product as it is yet another overpriced chunk of plastic saturating the electronicsmarket.

Reciprocation: For a little bit of time and cooperation, the siteclaims the user can recieve all manner of extravegant electronics;from televisions to ipods and cameras. The site expects the user to"evaluate" the products they recieve in return for being able to keep what they "evaluate".

Authority: The iPhone helps convey authority in its brand by tellingthe customer exactly how revolutionary the new forthcoming device willbe. The contrived CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs, is also on hand to strengthenthe message of his revolutionary device. Groups of people have alreadyenthralled themselves in the device, so the marketing and authorityput forth have an obvious effect.

Scarcity: The site illustrates scarcity by simply telling the viewerthat their offer is only available for a limited time. The scarcity comesfrom the conglomeration of services offered for an uncommonly low price. The way they employ scarcity isn't incredibly impressive and isn't likelyto work on all customers, but the principles are there.
